When did you know you wanted to be a barber?
"At the age of 13 when I realized it was a needed stream of income in my household. But even then I wasn’t totally convinced this was my career."
How long have you been barbering?
"30 years."
Social media has greatly impacted the Barber Industry. What would you say is a pro and con?
"The pro is it helps you to get exposure and advertise your business daily. The con is some barbers get caught up in being an Instagram superstar an forget what barbering is really about."
"Manweaves". The latest fad? Here to stay? Why?
"It’s here to stay because baldness and hair thinning is here to stay."
How important is the barbershop to the Black community?
"The barbershop is very important, barbers impact a lot of young men’s lives as they grow up. Often young Black men grow to know an respect their barber."
Is that why you educate young Black men on barbering?
"Yes!"
Who inspires you?
"All the young an unpopular barbers that look up to me, they're my inspiration."
How did you get the title "half man half machine"?
"Because I work daily harder than 90 percent of the barbers in the world. No matter where I am, I’m going to work hard."
What advice would you give aspiring barbers?
"Be humble. Work 100 percent everyday. And when u make it, don’t forget where u come from."
