DONALD KING
Tell us how you got started in the hair industry.
"I started cutting hair at the age of 13 just for convenience not actually a step in pursuing the profession. I entered cosmetology school all because the barber school had a year waiting list and I ended up enrolling in this one cosmetology school that accepted barbers. I was 20 yrs old at the time. I actually got bored with just barbering and wanted more so I started cutting women's hair with no intention on becoming a stylists...lol. I've been doing hair for 14 years now. I'm also a licensed cosmetology instructor for 4 years and an aspiring international educator."
You're fortunate to have a clientele made of men and women of different races. What do you attribute your diverse clientele to? Training/skills? Location?
"Well my training and skills attributes to my diversity. I love servicing clients of all genders and races because it keeps you balanced and unlimited."
What's the key to building and keeping clientele?
"Personality, professionalism, and client retention are key elements in building your clientele."
How important is it for stylists to continue their education?
"It is very important to stay or become educated in your field because it helps you maintain a level of professionalism and solidified as a stylist."
Do think styling is easier or harder than barbering?
" I'd probably consider styling harder than barbering only because of the wide range of the styling aspect."
