Demeda Campbell

Demeda Campbell  35, is from East St Louis, Illinois, began styling hair at the age of 9. She begin her journey in her grandmothers home where she was her own very first client. Her keen sense of observation came from observing the skills of other stylist while waiting for her turn in the chair.

Demeda began to profit from her skills when she became an entrepreneur at the tender age of 12. School was her first priority and then while friends played and enjoyed their childhood, Demeda dived into improving her skills by styling classmates and others after school. She became very well known for her skills through out the community and school.

Demeda knew that she "arrived" when clients began to Pre-pay for their next hairstyles before it was even done! When asked about what she enjoys most about her profession, Demeda states, "Pleasing my clients. One of the challenging things surrounding being a stylist is the consumption of time for each style."

When it comes to servicing clients who are unhappy with their hair, Demeda aims to please every client by accommodating their wants. Compromise is the key. Sometimes this may require the style to be tweaked or a total do-over. She is happy to say that she has not had to deal with this situation frequently.

Marcel flat irons, Shaper Plus, and Nairobi Updo Style and Hair Spray are her staple products. Accomplishing a perfect mold is a MUST when styling short styles. Demeda achieves this with the Junior Wrap Neck strips. Demeda is an advocate for the old school greasing of the scalp. She has compiled some of her favorite moisturizers and greases to achieve what she and her clients have named, " Demeda's Hair Gro".

Demeda has has been a salon owner for 3 years. Prior to becoming an owner, she managed a salon for 8 years  Her future plans include testing the waters for celebrity styling as well as platform styling.  She has plans to obtain her instructor's license and to open a cosmetology school of her own.

When asked what advice she has for future stylist, Demeda states, " Don't limit your self to being a local stylist. This is a very competitive profession. Learn all that you can, become as diverse as possible, and reach for accomplishments beyond being just a stylist.

Demeda is a 1997 graduate of Coiffure School of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. She is the owner of Creative Stylz Salon #7 North 47th St Belleville, Illinois 62226
